The recent ChromeOS update to 127 brings with it improved integration with Microsoft 365 services and OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based file storage. ChromeOS users have always been able to use the online version of Microsoft Office, but this update allows users to connect their OneDrive accounts to sync up with the Files app.
Additionally, it allows users to open up the online version of Microsoft Office as a PWA (meaning it’s still running as a web app, but in its own window making it look like a desktop app). While I mostly stick to Google docs for one university I work for, my other adjunct position uses Microsoft Office, so this is a helpful integration to have.
As with most web apps, some features may be limited, but for my own uses (teaching and general presentations), it has all of the features I need. In my opinion, it’s an update that makes ChromeOS and Chromebooks more viable for business and education users especially since not all institutions can or will use the Google Office Suite.
